Blancpain clocks up the best official time in Abu Dhabi!

The first round of the brand-new FIA GT1 World Championship series got off to a roaring start this weekend on the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
The season opener was won by a Swiss team – Matech – driving a Ford GT. Blancpain served as official timekeeper for the competition, since the Manufacture in Le Brassus recently signed a world-exclusive partnership agreement with the Fédération Internationale Automobile (FIA) for the first ten races of the very first GT1 championship season in 2010.

Already involved for over a year in competitive automobile sports as partner of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, the prestigious Swiss brand belonging to the Swatch Group is now launching into world-class motor-racing. The Blancpain colours are worn by two Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-S cars, and the watch manufacturer now also handles the official timekeeping for the championship. This is an ambitious undertaking for Blancpain, which thereby continues to assert its excellence in the field of time measurement.

For this inaugural season, the first FIA GT1 world championship comprises ten races that will take drivers to South Africa, Brazil, South America and Europe. The next round is scheduled for the end of April on the legendary Silverstone racing circuit in the United Kingdom.
